How pricing works in Dunedin
You never name a price. Drivers set their own, and you choose the bid that suits you.
You post, free
Describe what needs moving in Dunedin, add photos, and set your dates. Posting costs nothing and you are under no obligation to accept any bid.
Drivers bid against each other
ID-verified drivers send their own price for your job. A driver already heading through Otago may price it differently, because your job fits a trip they are making anyway.
You pay when you accept
You're charged when you accept a bid, and the payment is held securely until the job's done.
How SoundMove protects you
Built into every booking, not an optional extra.
Payment held until the job's done
Your money sits securely with SoundMove until the job's done. We release it to the driver when you confirm, or automatically 24 hours after they mark it done if you haven't raised an issue.
Tracked step by step
Every delivery moves through timestamped checkpoints, from confirmed to picked up to delivered, visible to both sides.
Message your driver
Once the job is booked, message your driver on the platform, so arrangements and updates stay in one place.
Verified drivers, real reviews
Drivers are identity-verified before they can bid, and carry ratings from the jobs they have completed.

Access and parking
Dunedin is flat through South Dunedin and out on the Taieri at Mosgiel, and climbs almost everywhere else. Off the Roslyn and Maori Hill ridge, drives meet the street at right angles and a loaded van needs room to swing. The harbour road at Macandrew Bay and Company Bay is narrow with no verge, and on the central city one way pair a van loads kerbside or not at all. Port Chalmers sits out on SH88 and Mosgiel over Lookout Point, both clear of town. A driver bidding on one of these addresses is pricing the turn into the drive and the number of trips the steps add.
How SoundMove works, and what to ask anywhere else
Different jobs suit different options. Here is how ours works, and the questions worth asking before you book any of them.
| On SoundMove | Worth asking anywhere else | |
|---|---|---|
| Couch-sized items | Built for them. Post the item with photos and drivers with a suitable vehicle bid on it. | Check the size and weight limits before you book. |
| Who sets the price | Drivers set their own prices and bid against each other for your job. | Ask how the price is worked out, and what could change it on the day. |
| Payment protection | Your payment is held from the moment you accept a bid until the job's done. We release it when you confirm, or automatically 24 hours after the driver marks it done if you haven't raised an issue. | Ask when payment is due, and what protects it if something goes wrong. |
| Single items & small loads | Post just the one item. Each bid is for the job you posted. | Ask whether a minimum charge applies to a job this size. |
